We are born into this world and as soon as we begin to develop our given operating system, we look for someone…
Someone to guide us. Someone to make us feel secure. Someone to teach us how to cope, survive and just BE comfortable in this new life experience. As we grow up and evolve, we continue attempting to figure out this earthly walk, unconsciously looking for someone with some sort of edge on the playing field. We look for a LEADER. What makes a true leader though? What does the word LEADER mean to you? There are so many fascinating facets to this inquiry… In looking for a leader, most of the time we can start by turning OFF the television and the mass media. The leaders who we see running the world, often times are the least likely to be on our list of people with traits that we long for. Its just how it is… So what is a leader? A REAL leader. Maybe its the being who can simply keep their shit together in times of crisis. Someone solid, anchored, and with enough life experience to be able to relate from the depths. The one you can turn to when things go sideways. The leader is not perfect. Far from it. It’s not all about being squeaky clean and having a blemish free past. They’ve had a shit tonne of bad breaks. The true leader has had the life experience, not to just be talking from concepts, but to really know what works and what doesn’t, from experience, and instead of allowing the events from the past to constrict & filter their reality, they fully own those aspects of Self in order to be the emPowered being that it takes to lead themselves and guide others on their path. You can be a leader in your workplace, your family and your projects. Sometimes, more importantly though, your leadership shows up just in the way you handle and overcome adversity in your reality. How you show up in your everyday life, your challenges and heartbreaks. How you handle emotional triggers that go off in your being in the most intense times. Leading from that grounded space and being the example for others to follow suit. The true leader has to be able to LISTEN, in order to be worth listening to. This takes depth, and so much work to truly master. We are so used to listening with our own filtered agendas, rather than listening to respond to whats truly needed in any given situation. One crucial quality a leader has to embody, is HUMILITY. To be humble. How do we ‘keep it humble’ though, when we are growing and expanding so rapidly? So much of the time in totally new zones and realms of the unknown. Where we don’t even know ourselves anymore, who we are, what we’re doing, or the identities that we have always been attached to… At times it takes BIG humblings and shatterings of who we used to be, in order for existence to forge people into being an embodied leader, in whatever field. This is KEY. Heartbreaks and humiliations are often the only avenue for the leader to rise, to dissolve ones own arrogance, dysfunctions, delusions and blind spots. To see reality more and more the way it truly is, and to guide from that space. In rising to the position and trajectory of the souls longing, a leader has to pass through many initiations. Each time bringing up deep challenges and tough truths to integrate. With it brings the possibility of being seen and followed by more people, being projected upon more and having pressure added to the safe confines of their comfort zone. In these times, the leader has to take on MORE pressure, and give LESS fucks than ever about what people think, judge and project. The leader cannot be weighed down by such heavy burdens as fearing what others may think. This takes more and more inner strength and resilience that is cultivated over time. We like to think of ourselves as humble, but at times it can be a fine line as to what true humility is, and what is a false cut of the same fabric, where arrogance dwells cleverly in the depths. This requires radical self responsibility, another super important trait of leadership. Fact is, as a deeply wound human trait, we care what others think of us, at a much deeper level than we can comprehend and act from alot of the time. True leadership consistently calls upon the individual to put themselves out there, and risk fucking things up in front of everyone, rather than stay with the rest of the pack. A pack that needs to be led in totally new ways at this vital stage in humanities evolution. HUMILITY is a huge part of LEADERSHIP. Humility blooms through OPEN HEART intelligence. The open-hearted leader is what we yearn for most in this life. One who is ONE of the people, and a representative OF the people. Perhaps our job is to simply open our hearts even more, each time we contract, in order for us to fulfil our own unique leadership potential and have the discernment to be and follow the right leaders and role models as we need. Perhaps, its just that simple. 💜
